Envision the world without educators. Do you think the world will see committed scientists, valiant presidents, prudent economists, caring doctors and passionate sports players with no educators to indoctrinate them? It is obscure. See that the various professions mentioned have special merits and adjectives associated with them - committed is the term to describe scientists, valiant for presidents, prudent for economists, caring for doctors and passionate for sports players. It is because schools are not just the training ground for people to attain successful jobs and careers. Schools are where morals and truths are instilled to students. If you know Madeleine L’Engle, a great American writer, she left some very convincing words including one about knowledge. She said, "Truth is eternal. Knowledge is changeable. It is disastrous to confuse them". As not to be confused with these two important principles, these words of L'Engle must be imparted to all educators and teachers.
Knowledge is understanding the several principles and theories of topics and subjects that are integral to learn. They can be the simple street signs to elemental Arithmetic, English and Science that are taught in schools. Truths on the other hand are irrefutable facts or ideology. Examples of truths are life, death and love. For easy discussion, let us choose love as the topic for truth and how it can be added to traditional lessons in classroom discussions.
Let The Kids Explore
Before adding truths in ordinary lessons, examine the level of the understanding of the students. In no way compel a child to learn. It is obvious that a little child will not assimilate fully complicated matters like love if explained in convoluted ways. If teaching Science and nature, go outside and have the children investigate the things around them. Have the kids specify all the beautiful things that they see like the vegetation, animals, flora, clouds, stars and moon. Tell the child that features is part of the ecosystem and we need to protect them. Explain the association of love with nurturing and caring.
Show And Tell
During show and tell, students are encouraged to communicate what they have and what they know. This activity can enhance the communication skills of children. In the next show and tell, ask the kids to bring any living thing like a beautiful flower or a pet fish. Ask the child how they can show their love and care for these animals. By feeding their pets and watering the plants they are showing their love and feelings for these living creatures.
Love Is Unconditional
In the next math class, don’t just end the lesson with home works and problem solving activities. Add teaching about love. Start by telling the children that love is like math. It is so simple yet situation can arise that love can get so convoluted. There are many kinds of love and they are defined differently. Love can be like proportion - either you give half of yourself or your whole self. But the greatest kind of love is the love that is unconditional. No limitations and no boundaries. Unconditional love does not count records of wrongs. One loves because he loves, not because there is a sum to be paid.
Love Is Being Arty
Children love art class. Teach children to be creative when showing their love to their parents. They can give special cards even with no occasions. They can tell their parents how much they love them in the most visionary way. Have them share their thoughts.
Teaching truths and values in class are very resistant. Consider the things above if you are teaching kids about values in conventional classes. Improvise. Good luck!
